Finding an incredible tattoo artist is hard. There are a lot of artists that are bad, have bad practices, are hygienically “yikes”, bad aftercare instructions, or are unprofessional or creepy. Trust us, we should know. With every tattoo we get we spend a minimum of 3–6 months looking through dozens, if not hundreds, of artists. Yet, as tattoos are getting more popular and accepted, innovations such as apps have come about to help you find an artist. These are the best apps to find a tattoo artist. We use them every time and probably will for the foreseeable future.
When it comes to the best apps to find a tattoo artist, Instagram is the OG. From the moment Instagram became popular, artists have been using it to promote their work. These days, it has gotten pretty easy to find a cacophony of artists to peruse through to see what you are looking for.
However, there is a bit of a downside. There is no real way to make a specific search for one type of tattoo or shop/artist location. You can attempt to do so using hashtags, but it really falls short in this area. However, it is still one of the best apps as almost every artist has one, and it is one of the best ways to contact an artist to schedule your tattoo.
Inckd. Tattoo
Inckd. Tattoo is the newest app on the scene. However, they exploded almost immediately. We were invited to check it out and give our thoughts on it early in the process. Since then, they have grown exponentially, with tons of artists signing up daily.
With Inckd. You are able to search artists based on various aspects, including which style of tattoo you are looking for. Something you don’t see often. Every time we open it, it seems there are cool new features and amazing new artists. It is slowly becoming our go-to when it comes to finding a new tattoo artist. We have a feeling that it won’t be long before Inckd. Tattoo becomes our favourite app for finding new tattoo artists.
Tattoodo
Tattoodo was the first app used for finding tattoo artists outside of Instagram we found that was usable. As time stretched on, it has gone from being just “usable” to being one of the best apps to find a tattoo artist. Its functionality has improved astronomically since we started using it, and it’s still our favourite.
Upon opening the app, you are presented with a map of your area that shows all the registered shops in your area. From there, you can search in any local around the world, and they will show you the studios in that area that they know about. If you prefer to search by artist instead of shop, that’s an option as well.
Go Find Your Next Artist!
Every time we look for new artists, these apps are the first, and usually last, place that we check. They are the absolute best apps to find a tattoo artist, and we swear by them. Tattoodo is how we found both Dora at Fat Fox Tattoo and Maria at Mexican Tatts, two of our Nomadic Inscribers of Choice. Instagram is how we found the artist we chose for South Korea, something necessary due to the laws around tattooing in South Korea.
So if you’re looking for your next tattoo artist, try out one of these apps.

As always, we believe we should live with intention, travel with purpose, and let the world inscribe its stories upon us.
So until next time, stay authentic, stay Nomadic, and let the world inscribe its stories upon you more than you do upon it.
