Fat Fox Tattoo: A Nomadic Inscriber Review

Fat Fox Tattoo Studio Logo

If you know much about Austria and tattooing then you know that there isn’t a traditional method or style of tattooing here. Therefore I knew I would be giving an artist creative freedom with the stipulations that it has to be significant to them as both an artist and an Austrian. I’m happy to say that Fat Fox Tattoo was the right choice for my Austrian tattoo. I ended up with an incredible work of art on my arm.

Why Fat Fox Tattoo?

I spent months looking at different tattoo artists all over Austria before deciding on Fat Fox Tattoo in Vienna. The Austria tattoo was special to me since my wife is from there. Since we have been based here for a while I had the time to really vet different tattoo studios for an amazing artist. So I did.

I looked through dozens, if not hundreds, of artist portfolios. There is a lot of talented tattoo artists in Austria. Yet the second I saw Dora Bansagi’s talent and versatility I knew she had to be the artist for my Austrian tattoo.  Her work is beyond phenomenal and her stylistic versatility is on point. Her work talks for itself.

So without further adieu, let’s get started!

The Good

If I could sum up Fat Fox Tattoo in one word it would be “Impeccable”. From the art to the artists, all the way to the studio itself, everything was impeccable.  I could go one forever (and I do quite a bit in this post) about how friendly and talented everyone is, but I want to focus on some of the other goods.

Dora was on top of shit. When it became clear I was starting to feel pain, she busted out the numbing cream. When my blood sugars started crashing she offered chocolates and drinks that they keep for their canvases. Everyone was super easy to talk to and made being there among them a really pleasant experience. Not to mention how accommodating everyone was.

The shop itself has a really cool vibe with a very minimalistic approach. On top of that even when you just walk in the lobby the place just feels clean. The bathrooms are super cute with their little fake polaroid camera toilet paper holders.

The Bad

There were very few things that I could consider bad about Fat Fox tattoo. In fact, I don’t think that I could give you more than three at the very most. Two of those are being pretty nit-picky, too.

The first is the location. Fat fox is not in the best of locations. Having had both my sessions go past dark, both my wife and I were a bit uncomfortable after we left. For me, it was more the first visit when I had to go get cash from the ATM. I was very worried about having that much money in my pocket in that neighbourhood after dark. That being said they are opening a second location in another part of Vienna!

The second has to be the fact that I wasn’t able to pay with a card. I do not like having that much cash on me at the best of times. Like I said in the last part, having that much money in my pocket after dark just made me uncomfortable. So bring cash!

The third wasn’t really a problem for me, but I can see how it might be a problem for some. The tattoo shop has a very open floor plan leaving very little space for privacy. Therefore it could be uncomfortable for some depending on where on your body you’re planning on getting your tattoo.

The Ugly

When I look for both the bad and the ugly for tattoo studios I tend to get as nitpicky as I possibly can. Yet even with saying that I couldn’t find anything ugly about Fat Fox tattoo. It is a top-notch establishment.

My Review

The amazing work of art from Dora Basinga

From start to finish my tattoo at Fat Fox Tattoo was an overall great experience. Dora went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Working with her was a great experience that I would love to do again. I only hope that she enjoyed it as much as I did.

All of the artists I had the pleasure of meeting were incredibly talented and super friendly. There were a couple of small things that weren’t the greatest, but overall Fat Fox Tattoo is among the best studios I have been to. If you are looking for a tattoo in Vienna I highly recommend giving Fat Fox a very good look. You can’t go wrong getting tattooed by this bunch of artists.

There is a very good chance that we continue to go to Fat Fox Tattoo for any filler we may need in the future. If I wasn’t getting tattooed the way I am Fat Fox would be my go-to studio. It was amazing being able to work with such a great group of people.

Ratings:

We use a rating system of our own design for any tattoo studio we review. Trust me, the bathroom is surprisingly important. You don’t realize it until you realize it.

Location:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

As described in “Bad” the Location isn’t the best, but they will have a second location soon!

Cleanliness:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Top-notch example of the cleanliness level a tattoo studio should have.

Bathroom:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The bathrooms were not only pristine, but also adorable! The toilet paper roll holders are little fake polaroid cameras that are too cute.

Friendliness and Professionalism:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Everyone at Fat Fox Tattoo was amazing. The only reason I can’t give full points is due to not being able to pay with my card.

Atmosphere:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Fat Fox Tattoo is a chill as fuck environment. I enjoyed really enjoyed being there. The artists are all super friendly and the space gives a very minimalistic vibe.

Talent in Specialization:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Each artist seems to have a different specialization, some even having a few. The talent in those specializations? Absolutely incredible!

Versatility in Style:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Between the different artists’ specializations alone there is a huge amount of versatility. Yet it goes above and beyond when you see what they can do outside of their preferred styles.

Pain Management:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Highly aware of pain tolerances. When things got to be close to too much Dora started using a soothing and numbing cream.

Heavy-Light Handedness:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

For the most part, Dora had a pretty light hand. It’s even more impressive when you find out that she’s yet to get a tattoo herself. That being said there were a couple of areas that she got a bit heavy-handed when trying to pack in a lot of some colour.

Aftercare Instructions:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Very clear and straightforward aftercare instructions.

Overall Rating:

Rating: 10 out of 10.

Fat Fox Tattoo is a phenomenal tattoo studio. An absolute must if you are wanting to get a tattoo in Vienna. Therefore despite the nit-picky negatives, we give Fat fox a solid 9.8 out of 10.

No matter what style you are looking for you are in good hands at Fat Fox Tattoo. We highly, highly recommend this tattoo studio if you are in Vienna and in the market for a tattoo. We are so happy for them for the awesome announcement down below!
