Nomadic Inscriptions Choice Awards

After years of travelling, we decided to design this award by travellers, for travellers. The idea initially came as a sort of response to the problems we kept finding with multiple different popular awards out there right now.

We wanted a system that couldn’t be skewed by fake accounts, falsely inflated ratings or comments. A system where each place receiving an award has been directly experienced by a member of the team giving the award. We didn’t feel that there was a system like that currently in place.  Perhaps we are wrong, but it’s the feeling we have gotten from personal experience.

Why We Decided to Build This System.

We created these awards because we felt there was not a good award system currently around that was fully authentic.  The ones with the most renown use public rating and comment systems. We believe can be falsely inflated with fake accounts and reviews.

It really caught our attention when one of the previous winners of one award was and is a complete dump. Like had problems with bed bugs for over six months kind of a dump.

Then a completely different award for hostels had a nomination that could barely be considered a hostel. It only had one dorm room so that it could “qualify” as a hostel for an award specifically for hostels.

A third nominee was a place I had recently been to and their whole system was false advertising. Nothing looked like it did in the pictures.

It became very clear they weren’t being personally vetted. So the Nomadic Inscriptions Choice Awards was our response to these issues. As any place that wins an award from us has been personally vetted by a member of the Nomadic Inscriptions team.

In deciding to do this we worked as a team to design several rating systems that can, and will, evolve as we gain even more experience. We want to bring you the best possible experiences. Straight from your fellow travellers.

What are the Categories of Awards?

As the team grows and we expand our reach so too will the categories we have. There are a bunch of ideas already brewing about possible categories for the future. Yet with the size of our current team, we don’t believe we have the ability, reach, or funds to implement them.

For now, we have the following four categories:

Hotel/Hostel of Choice

Restaurant of Choice

Tattoo Studio of Choice

Nomadic Inscriber of Choice

We have further clarification of each category in the links above.

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible you don’t need to be signed up for any amount of time or even “listed” with us at all. Thankfully we don’t have a system like that.

In fact, any place that can fall under one of our awards are immediately eligible. No need to wait a year after opening or signing up for anything. Even if you have just opened and a Nomadic Inscriptions Team member shows up at your place you could potentially receive a Nomadic Inscriptions Choice Award.

Any place can be nominated by any traveller at any time. The number of nominations a place receives will increase its priority when one of our team members is in the area.

Nominations can be sent to choiceawards@nomadicinscriptions.com at any time. There they will be compiled by a team member based on location. So make sure to add the location when making a nomination.

We haven’t decided yet if we will be making the nominations public information or not. Chances are if we get the same places recommended by a large number of people and haven’t been able to have a team member go and vet the place then we will set up a public nominee list organized by location.

We’ve worked with some amazing people and amazing companies to put all this in place.

We look forward to being able to contribute to your best possible experiences.

Winner Announcements

Every March between the 15th and 31st we will be announcing the winners of the previous year. The winners will be notified by email before the awards are sent out.

Special thanks to Rhys at Searles Creative Co. for the amount of hard work he put into helping us finalize the logos for the awards.
