When it comes to embroidery tattoos and the embroidery tattooing style, there is a lack of information. As it is one of the newer styles out there, it’s just starting to gain a lot of traction and is far from being a traditional style or method.
So what are embroidery tattoos? Who started the style? Well, we have the answers to these questions and more.
What Are Embroidery Tattoos?
Don’t worry, this style of tattooing has nothing to do with actual embroidery. You won’t need to have a needle stitched through your skin. It’s not skin stitching after all!
Embroidery Tattoos are a newer form of tattooing. They were reported to be first seen down in Latin America back in 2017. Since then, this style has gained traction all over the world but has absolutely exploded all over Latin America. It takes two gorgeous art forms, tattooing and embroidery, and stitches them together beautifully.
Who Started The Embroidery Tattooing Style?
We searched for hours trying to find the original source of this breathtaking style. We came up short. However, we did find information on one of the first people who took it to the next level.
Eduardo ‘Duda’ Lozano, who works out of São Paulo, Brazil. He was one of the first to make embroidery tattoos look super realistic. To a point where his signature is the addition of little broken strings. It’s to a point where the invention of the embroidery tattooing style is attributed to him.
Due to Eduardo’s mastery over shadows, light, and colour, he has all but perfected this style of tattooing. And it’s this mastery that has gained him worldwide recognition for his work. Including invites to studios all over the world.
What’s The Appeal?
Just look at them. What wouldn’t be the appeal? Some embroidery tattoos are 3D and just pop off the skin. Those look like you could touch them and feel every ridge. This lasts even after the healing process is finished.
Yet, that’s not the only form of the embroidery tattooing style. The other primary form does away with the 3D nature. Instead, making the tattoo look as though it’s stitched directly onto or into the skin in such an elegant way. So whether it’s your first tattoo or fiftieth, the embroidery style is a versatile choice.
What Fits This Style Best?
There’s been a bit of debate about this. Some people believe the best fit for the embroidery tattooing style is anything nature related. Although we agree that those are always stunning, we think there is something just as good. Maybe even better.
If you grew up in the 90s or early 2000s, you might already know what we’re thinking. Growing up, everyone had these little patches. The scouts had their badges, punks had patches sewn to their jean jackets, and others would sew them to backpacks. They were everywhere and they were awesome. Anything that would fit on those would be perfect as embroidery tattoos.
However, if we’re being honest, really anything has the potential to work in this style.
Final Thoughts
Embroidery tattoos and the embroidery tattooing style are here to stay (unlike some). Something we are really happy about. Not only are these tattoos stunning, but it shows us something about tattooing as an art form.
What does it show? Well, it shows that despite being many millennia old, there are still new forms tattooing can take. Even with the dozens, perhaps even hundreds, of styles and forms tattooing may have, there are still more not yet found. It’s so cool that we ended up getting some at Mexican Tatts a while back.
