7 Amazing Restaurants In Vienna (and Area)

One of the joys of travelling is the food that you can try a whole bunch of different food. It’s rough when the restaurant you go to is an absolute bust. It can ruin an otherwise great night! That’s why we bring you these seven amazing restaurants in Vienna (and Area).

7. Any Heuriger From Vienna to Perchtoldsdorf

If you are looking for traditional Austrian food then you’re going to want to go to a Heuriger. They far bypass any of the other restaurants in Vienna that I have gone to when it comes to traditional Austrian food.

Heurigers are found all over Vienna and the small towns that make up the Speck Gürtel (bacon belt). They are owned by local families who own vineyards. These families use these small restaurants to showcase their local wines and food.

6. Der Weiner Deewan

Der Weiner Deewan is a unique Pakistani restaurant. Not just on this list either. With three locations it is unlike any of the other restaurants in Vienna. Although not the nicest looking of places Deewan has a really unique payment system.

Deewan offers 7 curries, 5 vegetarian and 2 meat every day. Their slogan? “All you can eat, pay as you wish.” Essentially you can eat as much as you want then decide what you want to pay for the meal you just had. A fascinating premise and an amazing method of outreach to those in need.

5. The Schweizerhaus

The Schweizerhaus (Swiss House) is a traditional Vienesse restaurant and beer garden located in the heart of the Prater. Spend a day riding the various rides in the amusement park before sitting down for an amazing dinner of the famous Stelze. After dinner and a few drinks take a ride on the famous Viennese Giant Ferris Wheel to enjoy a sunset over the city.

4. Karma Ramen

A bunch of Ramen bowls on a table from Karma Ramen. One of the most amazing restaurants in Vienna

I love a good Japanese Ramen. When it comes to restaurants in Vienna that serve delicious ramen Karma Ramen is at the top of my list. With a bunch of different ramens to choose from it really gets the job done. Some friends of ours were the ones to actually find the place and invited us for dinner. It was a dinner that changed our go-to Japanese restaurant in Vienna

3. CHINA KITCHEN 川菜香

Ever since leaving China, I have been on the hunt for quality authentic Chinese food. Trust me it isn’t easy to come by in the west. Yet China Kitchen 川菜香 does Chinese food justice. With a focus on Szechuan-style food, it really tickles the tongue. If you’re looking to “spice” up your night China Kitchen is the place to go.

2. Mama Liu & Sons

Another Authentic Chinese restaurant with a focus on Hot Pot. This was the first place outside of China that I have found that does Hot Pot well.

Hot Pot is a meal where you have one or more different boiling soups on the table. You take the uncooked meat and vegetables and put them in the boiling soup to cook them as you eat the parts already cooked.

It’s not just a meal, it’s an experience. With the amazing atmosphere in Mama Liu & Sons the experience is just complete.

1. Dampha Kitchen

Oh, man! Dampha Kitchen is phenomenal. A brand new restaurant in a gorgeous part of Vienna right off of Naschmarkt. Dampha kitchen boasts an amazing fusion of African and Spanish food. I mean their coconut milk Shrimp is to die for! The tacos and empanada were just perfect.

The owner is also the main chef. An awesome man born in Spain where he lived most of his life before coming to Vienna. His parents being from Gambia , Dampha Kitchen can only be described as a love letter to his heritage and upbringing. He opened the restaurant just before the end of 2021 and thank god he did. Dampha Kitchen with its unique Afrofusion food is one of the best restaurants in Vienna that I’ve been to. Well worth topping our list of amazing restaurants in Vienna.

In my opinion, Dampha Kitchen is a must-visit if you come to Vienna!

Honourable Mention: Hotel Sacher

Hotel Sacher is an Austrian classic. It deserves an honourable mention as although the restaurant is considered fine dining it isn’t the reason to go to Hotel Sacher. This is the one location to get the real world-famous Sachertorte. A delicious cake with apricot jelly filling and chocolate covering that just melts in your mouth

In Conclusion:

There’s a lot of restaurants in Vienna that are great. More than enough to choose from. Yet when it comes to the different places to eat these 7 amazing restaurants in Vienna are our absolute favourite.
