Our Top 3 Restaurants in Korcula, Croatia

I got to spend a lot of time in Korcula while I was down in Croatia waiting for my Austrian Visa to be processed. A lot of time. Mainly due to “complications” in the visa process that were a nightmare. Yet, at the same time, I think it was a blessing. I fell in love with Croatia despite the sunburn and crazy heat. You should know that one of my favourite things to do when visiting a place is tasting the local food and boy did I ever get to taste it. However, with all the different places I tried there were three that stood out by far making them my top 3 restaurants in Korcula.

These restaurants surprised me with mouthwatering food that brought a party to my mouth the second it hit my tastebuds, portion sizes fit for a king, and service that was exceptional, especially for Croatia. I was floored.

Alas, let’s get started with our top 3 restaurants in Korcula.

3. Konoba Belin

The path to Konoba Belin with lisa sitting in the middle and the countryside of Korcula in the backgroup. Konoba Belin is one of our top 3 restaurants in Korcula

Although a little bit out of the main town, Konoba Belin is well worth the trek. Konoba is a Croatian word that means something along the line of wine cellar or place to store wine.  Yet if Konoba Belin is a wine cellar I could see myself living in a wine cellar.

As you approach it doesn’t look like much, but once you go around back to the sitting area the place changes. The whole restaurant is essentially a giant patio that overlooks the surrounding valley. As you sit and chat with your friends and locals alike, sitting there and shipping your Grk or beer you can look at the gorgeous Korcula countryside light on fire as the sun sets.

A “small” portion

The food consists of a bunch of different traditional Croatian meat dishes that I won’t even pretend that I can pronounce… or spell. The portion size? I am a large man and I highly doubt that I could finish a portion alone. Even if I was starving. Oh! Did I mention that the meat falls off the bones to just melt in your mouth? It’s just *finger kissing in approval noise* Just make sure to book your reservation on their website or you might not get a table.

2. Konoba Adio Mare

In all of the places that I stayed while in Croatia I went out of my way to make friends with some of the locals. So whenever I wanted to find the best of something those are the people I would ask.

Being on the island of Korcula, smack dab in the middle of the Adriatic Sea meant I had to get seafood. Therefore the journey to find the best seafood restaurants in Korcula started and with the advice from newfound friends I had a lot of places to go.

Yet the consensus was set from the get-go. Every person I asked said the best was Konoba Adio Mare. After the many different restaurants in Korcula that I tried, I have to agree. It was not just the best in Korcula, but probably among the best I’ve ever had.

Now although the seafood is seasoned to perfection and absolutely to die for I would argue that it isn’t even the highlight of this little place. Konoba Adio Mare is smack dab in Old Town Korcula, the part of Korcula that is chock full of history and is absolutely stunning at all times of the day. Eating here feels like you’re eating and breathing in history.

1. Skver

Skver was highly recommended to me as a place that locals go for traditional dishes in large portions and did they ever deliver.

The first three or four times I tried finding the place I got lost and ended up eating somewhere very different. The reason for this is that they are located down an almost hidden, very small alleyway just outside of Old Town Korcula. If you don’t know where it is there is a very good chance that you will miss out on it. I promise that there is almost no chance you will just stumble upon it.

Seating for Skver is on a small terrace in between a bunch of buildings, dampening the noise from Old Town while still letting in a salty breeze and the sound of the waves tickling the rocks in the harbour.

They are decently popular so depending on when you go there is a chance they might not have some meal options as they tend to get fresh food daily. The portions are large and although the plating of some meals makes it look kind of gross I promise the food is absolutely delicious. My wife still talks about Skver to this day.

The food was great, the portions, enormous, the atmosphere? Absolutely amazing. It stood out to me as a bubble of peace, quiet, and solitude in an otherwise bustling locale.

Honourable Mentions:

This article was initially titled “ Our Top 4 Restaurants in Korcula, Croatia”. The top spot initially went to a small restaurant in a small nook of Old Town Korcula called Mindol. Not only was the food excellent, but the owners were amazing. I ended up going there several times with different people, including my wife when she came down to join me. One night the owner even sat down and drank with us for hours. It was a night to remember!

Unfortunately, since we left they have closed the restaurant. The good news though is that they are planning on opening a small beach bar down in Lumbarda. Cocktails, burgers, and good times are their specialty and I believe that they will achieve great things! I look forward to going back to try it out. I’m sad to say that their closing makes it so they don’t quite make it in our top 3 restaurants in Korcula

In Conclusion:

Korcula was incredible. An underrated gem amongst the islands of Croatia. It was one of my favourite places to visit amongst the many places to stay around Croatia. So many things to do, people to meet, and food to eat. If you ever end up going, which I pray for your sake that you do, I highly recommend you try out our top 3 restaurants in Korcula.
