It’s that time of year again. That joyous part of the year when we sift through all the various places we’ve stayed in the last year. All so that we can choose the few that might earn Hostel of Choice 2023.
As always, it was a hard decision to make. For some destinations, you have to keep in mind that you’ll almost never find a place as nice as a boutique hostel in Western Europe. Choices need to be made relative to the other options in an area.
We also tried to avoid awarding the 2023 Hostel of Choice to any 1-night “in transit” hostels. As we don’t feel we gave them the attention they need and deserve.
So, without further ado, here are the Hostels we felt deserving of Hostel of Choice 2023:
Time Traveller’s Relax, Hongdae, Seoul
We were a tad surprised by Time Traveller’s Rest. The place we had stayed at right before going here had a quest trashing both the Rest and Party locations. Therefore, I did not have the highest of hopes.
However, not only was our stay here pleasant, but out of all the places we stayed in Seoul, and there were quite a few, we liked it enough to make it one of the 2023 Hotels of Choice.
The hostel itself is very much a homely hostel. It is run by the owner and some volunteers who stay there as well. The only complaints I could give are that its location at the top of a hill, through various small streets, can make it hard to find and that it could use another bathroom.
Otherwise, it’s a really nice place. Despite being in Hongdae, it’s in a very quiet, isolated place. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy, making you feel like you’re in a friend’s library. Plus, the people who end up there are chill as hell.
We loved our time here, and have it on the list of places we would love to stay at again.
ZZZiP Guesthouse, Hongdae, Seoul
On our most recent trip to Seoul, this was the first place I stayed at. Possibly a mistake, as I was completely blown away. This was everything I’ve ever wanted from a homely hostel in Asia. From the WhatsApp group they add you to with all the guests, to the copious amounts of recommendations they give for everything you can imagine.
There are just too many great things about ZZZiP Guesthouse to fit in just the Hostel of Choice 2023 announcements. So much so that they deserve a full review and will get so.
Checking In with the Nomadic Inscriptions 2023 Choice Awards
I will be honest, this year’s Choice Awards are coming out a bit late. Why? Because it was so hard to pair down the options. In fact, we are still trying to do so with the 2023 Restaurants of Choice. It really has not been easy with how many incredible choices there are. However, this wraps up the 2023 Hostel of Choice.
Upon making our decisions, we take your future experiences and stay quite seriously. If you have a place you would like us to check out, then send that information to team@nomadicinscriptions.com. Currently, someone is working to compile and organize all recommendations based on location.
We are elated to have been able to stay at so many places and feel privileged to announce these two hostels as our 2023 Hostel of Choice Award winners.
We hope that next year there will be a lot more places announced as winners.
