11 Great Gifts for Travel Lovers For Under $50

Whether it’s the holidays that are fast incoming or a birthday sometime during the year getting gifts for people is hard. Especially if that person is a traveller. Most travellers live for experiences and put a lot less importance on material items. This can potentially lead to gifts that are super expensive. So what can you do for gifts for travel lovers without breaking the bank? Hopefully, these ideas will help you find the perfect gift for the traveller in your life.

It may not be the once-in-a-lifetime unforgettable experience that you may want them to have. Yet without you even knowing it these small things, so often overlooked by travellers themselves, can contribute to making that experience unforgettable.

In only a semi particular order here are 11 gifts for travel lovers for under 50$

11. Travel Clothesline

A super handy device for people who stay in hostels and love to pack light. Not only is it handy, I mean I take one whenever I’m travelling long term, but it is also something travellers almost never think about themselves.

Having a clothesline that you can put up in the hostel room saves so much money. Just wash your dirty clothes in the sink, hang them up on the clothesline, and go about your day. Usually, they are dry by the time you get back from your outings.

An excellent pairing for this gift, while not necessary, would be a sink plug for doing the laundry.

10. Travel Notebook

Every travel lover needs their own notebook. Whether it is to journal about their various travels or just to jot down different places they wish to go. There are hundreds of uses for these notebooks that most people don’t even realise until they are on the road themselves.

While a great gift for travel lovers alone you can always pair a nice travel notebook with a gorgeous fountain pen. Obviously, you can keep the combined total under $50 USD or EUR, but if you so desire you can also get more personalized items for more.

9. Sleeping Bag Liner

Another item that the vast majority of travel lovers won’t think of getting themselves. Despite this, it can be one of the most useful items out there.

For example, some types of hostel expect you to bring your own sheets or will charge you for theirs. Others can be a bit nasty and you might not want to sleep directly on their sheets. That’s where the sleeping bag liner comes in.

Its compact size and convenience make it a great gift for travel lovers everywhere. The added bonus with this one is that the small bag that holds the liner can be filled with clothes to be used as a pillow. Two in one!

8. Bluetooth Locator Chips

I’m sure that we all know that person who always loses stuff. Like they would lose their head if it wasn’t attached. I am that person and my wife constantly teases me about it. For me, it’s really only 3 things I am constantly losing. My wallet, my keys, and my phone.

These Bluetooth chips are meant to be attached to various items to keep you from losing them. In the past, I have used these chips to death and find them so useful. I’m personally partial to Tile, but whatever ones you think are best you can go for.

7. Microfiber Quick-Dry Towel

For the longest time I refused to take a towel with me when I travelled. They just take up way too much space, you know? I figured I could either get a towel from the hostel (even if I had to pay for it) or I could just air dry. The latter truly isn’t pleasant in most places that aren’t your home.

My wife actually showed me these microfiber quick-dry towels. They dry super fast and are incredibly compact, making it super easy to find a little bit of room in your bag without overpacking. A really good choice for gifts for travel lovers.

6. SD and Micro SD Cards

The more I travel the more I find that you just cannot have enough of these.  Granted I pack my laptop and cameras no matter if it’s for a warm climate or a cold climate. Yet, even if you don’t pack all the stuff I do these are still super handy!

If your travel lover always packs their camera then they will never be sad about getting more storage space. Storage goes all too quickly. SD cards are primarily for cameras, drones, and the like so even if your travel lover doesn’t take these micro SD cards are still a good option.

A lot of phones use micro SD cards for storage. Most of the micro cards also come with an adapter so you may put it in a camera or in a laptop to upload your pictures. That makes these one of the best gifts for travel lovers.

The one caveat to this is that the prices range based on how much storage there is. Therefore you can find this item on the list for gifts for travellers over $50 as well.

5. Outlet Travel Adapters

Oh man. One of the worst experiences is landing in a country you have never been to before with a dead phone. It gets worse when you go to find the nearest outlet and find that your charger just doesn’t fit. Now you might be panicking about how you are going to charge your phone, find your hotel or hostel, use your maps, etc, etc.

Don’t let this happen to you or the travel lover in your life. Get them an outlet travel adapter. There are a few different types, but I personally prefer the ones that are universal (have all of the countries’ availability) as opposed to the ones that are specific to certain countries. That way it’s one and done.

4. LifeStraw Water Filter (or Water Bottle)

LifeStraw is an absolute life saver. The company has different water bottles and straw with different abilities to pick between. All of them were designed to filter water to different degrees.

LifeStraw Go was initially made for filtering water in the wild while hiking and camping, but can be used a lot of different ways.

LifeStraw Flex is made to do the same as Go, but is collapsable.

Livestraw Universal is a lid and filter made to fit certain water bottles.

The website states “Compatible with select models, with a minimum bottle height of 7.3 inches, from Hydroflask, Klean Kanteen, Camelbak, Nalgene, Contigo, Takeya, Simple Modern and other popular brands; visit lifestraw.com for a complete list”

LifeStraw Play is made to add lead reduction.

All of the different types remove 99.99% of bacteria, parasites, microplastics, silt, etc. Also, they all remove chlorine and other natural chemicals, making it odour-free and “flavourless”.

There are a couple of others such as a gravity bag. LifeStraw is a super cool company and you should definitely check them out.

I would go as far as to say that this water filtration system makes tap water all over the world drinkable. Therefore any of these make for perfect gifts for travel lovers everywhere

3. Excellent Power Bank

These guys are pretty necessary. Having one or two of these in your pack will make it so the situation in #5 does not happen. Essentially giving you more freedom to use your devices how you like without worrying about them dying on you.

Before I leave on a trip I make sure I have one, if not two, power banks. To me they are an absolutely essential gadget to take on any trip. Long or short. Plus, if your beloved travel lover has one of these they have no excuse not to call to tell you they have arrived safely.

2. Maps

I f*cking love maps. Absolutely love them. If someone got me a map for my office that I didn’t have I would be so happy! I use pins with them to plot out different travel routes, pinning papers of different events, holidays, festivals, and places that I want to see and celebrate while I’m there.

For the travel lover in your life, you might want to talk to them about this as not everyone is as excited by maps as I am. They probably won’t route things out the way that I do either. However, with that being said, most people do love the world maps that you can scratch off all the places they’ve been to. Bring it up in casual conversation. Maybe ask, “If you had a map of somewhere in the world what map would you want?” or something of the like.

I think maps are one of the all-time greatest gifts for travel lovers and I will die on that hill.

1. Travel Vouchers and Giftcards

Travel vouchers are arguably the best cheap gifts for travel lovers
Flightgift

We all know that when it comes to travel lovers that the best thing you could get for them is a trip. Any travel lover would absolutely love that. However, we said we were going to keep things under $50 (that can be USD or EUR) and we will.

There are a couple of companies these days that will allow you to buy travel vouchers and/or gift cards that can go towards booking flights, hotels, and a few other things. The ones that I have had the best results for are Ryanair and flightgift. You can decide how much you want to give that loved one ranging from one cent to 10,000 dollars and possibly even more.

So grab one this holiday season as it is the perfect gift for travel lovers under $50.
